Exmoor from above…

Striped of their leaves the weathered, windswept and stunted Beech avenues that stretch across the high moor reveal the hidden ancient tracks, driftways and droveways used by both drovers and shepherds to move livestock from summer to winter pastures and to distant markets.

I’m proud to say that my great grandfather was a drover who summed his working life as hard; out in all weathers, walking long distances, often sleeping rough under hedges for shelter or out in the open under his waxed raincoat with the gathered stock under his care.
